The White Sox placed right-handed reliever Tony Pena on the 15-day disabled list Sunday and purchased the contract of Lucas Harrell from Triple-A Charlotte.

Pena was diagnosed with right elbow tendinitis and the move is retroactive to Saturday (May 28).  He was 1-1 with a 6.20 ERA (14 ER in 20 1-3 inn.) and struck out 17 in 17 appearances this season.

Pena is 7-6 with a 4.93 ERA  and one save in 104 appearances (three starts) in three seasons with the White Sox.

The 25-year-old Harrell was 4-2 with a 3.54 ERA in nine games with Charlotte in 2011.

He went 1-0 with a 4.88 ERA in eight appearances (including three starts) with the White Sox last season.

Harrell is definitely up here in a relief role this season, whereas last year he was brought up to start a few games. The Sox are looking to split a four-game series in Toronto today.
