Peavy Finally Gets to Pitch in KC – Lineups 7/14

Last night/this morning’s game may have been a bit long, but certainly everybody is ready for round 2 at Kauffman today. The extended game time will mean that A.J. Pierzynski gets the night off, but otherwise it’s all the usual suspects in the lineup.

Jake Peavy finally got a win in his last outing, and is looking to notch another. He, like Dunn, was not afforded an opportunity to play in Kansas City for the All-Star game despite being available and in uniform. The extended rest likely means that if he’s effective, he’ll go most or all of the game. If he can manage that it will be a breath of fresh air for a bullpen that was emptied of all its rookies and Matt Thornton last night.

Luke Hochevar has thrown some serious clunkers in 2012, but he’s also turned in some impressive starts, including a complete game shutout against the Rays on June 25th. His poor days outnumber his good days though, and he comes in sporting 5.14 ERA.

Today’s Lineup:

1.De Aza – CF
2.Youk – 3B
3.Dunn – 1B
4.Konerko – DH
5.Rios – RF
6.Ramirez – SS
7.Viciedo – LF
8.Flowers – C
9.Beckham – 2B

Can Youkilis extend his RBI streak to 9? Can Alex Rios continue his hot hitting? One thing worth noting heading in is Royals All-Star Billy Butler has had some success against Peavy. In just 21 at-bats he has hit 3 HR and holds a .389 batting average against the fiery righthander.
