Ozzie Guillen Gets Fired, Makes White Sox Look Smarter

Just a quick note as Ozzie Guillen is sent packing for being a distraction by a team that seems to be marketing distractions, beginning with a rather large one over the left center field fence. Ozzie left Chicago because he didn’t feel loved. He said to feel loved, he would need to have a multi-year contract put in front of him. With Miami, he got that: 4 years, $10 million. The Marlins in their brilliance have paid Ozzie Guillen for a last place finish despite being picked to finish near the top based on the talent acquired in an off-season spending free. They’ll also pay him to sit at home and watch bullfights on satellite TV or whatever it is that he does through the 2014 season.

The White Sox avoided paying out that money, managed to not finish in the cellar and for their willingness to not make Ozzie feel loved received two young players from Miami that were not expected to matter. Osvaldo Martinez was sold to the Dodgers in July (I’m unsure of the dollars involved but that’s pure profit) and Jhan Marinez actually even saw some time with big league squad in 2012, pitching 2.2 innings and finishing with a 0.00 ERA and had an impressive showing in 63 innings at AAA Charlotte.

The point I’m making, even though I never sensed any doubt from the White Sox community, is the White Sox won this transaction and they won it huge. Happy trails, Ozzie.
