White Sox Sign Jeff Keppinger

Jeff Keppinger rumors? There are no Jeff Keppinger Rumors. There are Jeff Keppinger facts. And as Jon Heyman has reported, the fact is that the White Sox have signed Jeff Keppinger to a 3-year $12M deal. I talked about the rumor just today, and wasn’t blown away at the idea of signing the former Tampa Bay utility player turned third baseman but I don’t work for the Chicago White Sox.

The signing is slightly surprising as a lot of the reports coming out of Nashville had the Sox looking to add a left-handed bat to the lineup. Keppinger not only bats right handed, but does so with a rather pronounced split, slugging .358 in his career vs. RHP and .487 vs. LHP. Like I said before, it remains a Morel improvement and keeps Hahn from dishing out way too much money to retain Kevin Youkilis. I strongly stress that last. The dollars aren’t hefty and Keppinger surviving the year healthy, even coming off of a broken leg, is still a better bet than Youk.
