Andre Rienzo might be making his first start of the 2014 season, as he could be starting as early as Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers.

In an article by Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago it states:

"“White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Rienzo is still the leading candidate to assume Felipe Paulino’s spot in the starting rotation when it comes up on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers.”"

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, because who else is this team going to look to who is already on the roster?

He did pitch a shutout inning on Sunday against the Texas Rangers, but now he’ll have to increase his workload, and lets all hope by the time Wednesday arrives the bullpen is rested and not tired. Who knows how he’ll pitch against the Tigers, especially on the road.

Last season, in 10 starts with the White Sox, Rienzo posted an ERA of 4.82 with a 2-3 record. In 56 innings, he allowed 55 hits (11 home runs), 34 runs (30 earned), and walked 28.

Rienzo struck out 38 batters in those starts.

Maybe this is the change the White Sox needed to the rotation as Paulino recovers on the DL, though it is unlikely he’ll be a starter for the White Sox even when he returns from the DL.
