Chris Sale got his league-leading 8th win Friday night as the Chicago White Sox took the opener of a three game set. Sale dominated the New York Yankees as he went the distance on only 99 pitches, and the only run he allowed was on a solo home run by Chase Headley. Here is the recap.

Scoring Summary

2nd Inning (Top): Brett Lawrie led off the inning by slicing a double into the right field corner. Avisail Garcia followed him up with a hard line drive out, bringing Alex Avila to the plate. Avila collected his first RBI of the year by driving a double to left-center, easily scoring Lawrie. After Austin Jackson walked, Adam Eaton reached on an infield single to load the bases. Jimmy Rollins struck out to bring Jose Abreu to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Abreu would deliver a two-out, two-run single, scoring both Avila and Jackson. 3-0 White Sox headed to the bottom of the 2nd inning.

2nd Inning (Bottom): Chase Headley would take Chris Sale out to left leading off the inning. That would be the last the Yankees would score in the game. 3-1 White Sox headed to the top of the 3rd inning.

3rd Inning (Top): Both Brett Lawrie and Avi Garcia were retired to lead off the inning. Alex Avila would record his second hit of the night, which was followed by an Austin Jackson walk. Adam Eaton then drove them both home with a double to center field, extending the Sox lead to 5-1. Just to pad the lead, Jimmy Rollins crushed a home run into the second deck in right, making the score 7-1. That would be the final score of the ballgame.

Escape Act/Defensive Gem

I am going to give this award to the same player, that being Adam Eaton. Considering this game wasn’t much of a contest, Eaton made a running catch to end the first inning on a Mark Teixeira line drive into right center field. Eaton didn’t get the best read on the ball, however was able to run it down and keep the game scoreless.

Game Ball

This is a no doubter, with it being Chris Sale. After the second inning, the Yankees had very little luck against Sale, as they only managed the Headley home run (2nd inning). Sale did the bullpen a favor as he went all nine, allowing one run on six hits while striking out six.
