White Sox Claim Rymer Liriano Off Waivers, Add Depth to Outfield
White Sox claim outfielder off waivers. The young outfielder hasn’t played since spring training, adds depth to outfield for team.
The Chicago White Sox completed a transaction on Friday, but it wasn’t a big transaction. The Sox added to its lacking outfield depth by claiming Rymer Liriano off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. Liriano hasn’t played since Spring Training when he was hit in the face by a pitch.
Liriano was regarded as a top prospect in the San Diego Padres farm system at one point, but was traded to the Brewers last offseason. In 2015, Liriano hit .292 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI’s for Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas.

The 25 year-old outfielder has briefly played in the majors as recently as 2014 with the Padres. In 38 games with San Diego that season, Liriano hit .220 with one home run and six RBI’s. Although Liriano didn’t have much success at the major league level in his first trip, he could become a solid option off the bench for the Sox next season.
This would depend on Liriano making the team out of spring training. If Liriano starts next season in Charlotte, the Sox will still have a solid outfield option to use in case of injury.

With this move, this could spell the end of Avisail Garcia’s time with the Sox. Garcia will be up for arbitration, and the Sox probably won’t tender him a contract for 2017. The Sox 40-man roster is now at full at 40 players with the addition of Liriano.
