White Sox: J.B. Shuck outrighted to Triple A Charlotte

The White Sox send center fielder J.B. Shuck to Triple A Charlotte. Shuck played in 81 games this season and batted .205.
The Chicago White Sox announced on Thursday they out righted outfielder J.B. Shuck to Triple A Charlotte, as reported by MLB Traderumors. Shuck stepped in this season after Austin Jackson went down with an injury. The 29 year-old spent some time with the team last season, and appeared in 79 games.
Shuck was drafted in the sixth round of the 2008 amateur draft by the Houston Astros out of Ohio State University. He spent about three years in the minors, and debuted with in 2011.After that, he spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

In 2013, he played in a career high 119 games for the Angels and had a .293 average with two home runs and 39 RBIs. After that, he went to the Cleveland Indians, where he spent one season. Finally, the Sox claimed him from the Indians in 2014.
He appeared in 81 games this season but hit only .205. The left hander also had four home runs and 14 RBIs. For his career, he has made 995 plate appearances and owns a .251 batting average with eight career home runs and 80 RBIs.
Shuck mostly appeared in center field but also logged time in left and right field. He even pitched for the Sox. Most of his value was shown on defense. In center, he committed only two errors in 127 chances and had a .984 fielding percentage.
Shuck showed he can be a really good defender but his batting average was just terrible. And that’s probably what will keep him from being an everyday player. It wouldn’t be bad to have him play every now and then, but you can’t bat .205 and play everyday. The best thing for Shuck is to sort out his approach at the plate and hopefully start hitting better. Maybe a trip to Charlotte will help him out because he can play every day.
The White Sox have a major need at center field but I don’t think Shuck really fits the bill. I don’t really see him as being a guy who could play everyday. He is a nice guy coming off the bench but he has a long way to go if he wants to crack the starting lineup.

Still, he is young and could probably make some strides if he’s given a chance to play everyday. Charlotte will afford him that opportunity and hopefully he will run with it.
