White Sox Land 5 Prospects in Top 100 For Baseball America

White Sox have five prospects ranked in top 100 of Baseball America’s ranking for 2017. South Siders begin season with better farm system than in year’s past.

The Chicago White Sox farm system continues to get proper recognition this offseason as five of their prospects were ranked in the Top 100 of Basbeall America’s 2017 preseason ranking. Yoan Moncada led the Sox with the highest ranking at no. 2.

Although six prospects were ranked in the Top 100 of MLB’s prospect ranking, Carson Fulmer wasn’t ranked by Baseball America as a Top 100 prospect. Lucas Giolito was ranked by BA as the 25th top prospect, Reynaldo Lopez no. 31, Michael Kopech no. 32 and Zack Collins ranked no. 56.

With the Sox having five players ranked in the Top 100 of BA’s preseason list, this shows the future is indeed bright for the organization. Despite an upcoming season that will most likely end with another finish under .500, the Sox can look to the future for success.

The one prospect that could have an immediate impact upon being called up could be Moncada. However, Moncada did struggle in his brief stint last season with the Red Sox hitting .211. Moncada could start this season at Triple A Charlotte. Another top prospect that could have an immediate impact upon arrival is Giolito.

Giolito, like Moncada also struggled in his brief MLB stint with the Washington Nationals last season. The Sox no. 2 prospect should begin his season in Charlotte as well, but could find his way in Chicago before the end of this season.

The Sox don’t have to rush any of their top prospects to the majors this upcoming season as they won’t be contending. The important task for the Sox will be developing their minor league players for sustained success in the future.
