I was wondering if a White Sox cap would be thrown into this discussion. According to Jon Heyman, the Zack Greinke sweepstakes are heating up and the Chicago White Sox are now in the mix.

Greinke is in the final year of a 4 year $38M contract that he initially signed with the Royals and is likely to pull a pretty penny this offseason in the free agent market. The Brewers aren’t solid candidates to retain his services and are looking to get a little something in return. Various other teams are interested in the right hander, each of which is more likely to complete a trade than the White Sox, as I see it.

When the Atlanta Braves initially expressed interest in Greinke the rumor mill circulated stories of the Brewers demanding uber prospect Julio Teheran in return. If the desired package requires a youngster of that caliber, the White Sox don’t really have anything to offer.

Zack Greinke probably isn't going to be chatting up his Brewers pals for much longer. (Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE)

Though Jared Mitchell has shown signs of life following a down year adjusting from an ankle injury, there are no high end prospects in the White Sox system that can be flipped for a top tier name. To put it bluntly, the White Sox farm system was ranked 30th by nearly every publication that cared to provide rankings entering 2012 and the team has graduated quite a few players to the major leagues this season.

I’d love to have Greinke in the rotation. He’s an ace at his best and a solid addition to the rotation at worst, but I have a hard time seeing that get done. The White Sox could certainly use help, especially with Gavin Floyd’s health now in question, but if Kenny Williams pulls something off, it will be a true magic trick.

Some may have some concern that Greinke would not thrive in the Chicago media market due to the social anxiety disorder that he has dealt with in the past. When Zack went through the last round of trade rumors as he was headed out of Kansas City, it was revealed that his contract had a 15 team no-trade clause. So far as I can tell, the full list is not divulged anywhere, but I would guess that any market that is perceived as a threat to his mental health would be included. If he feels that he couldn’t play in Chicago, he just won’t come. Or at least that’s my guess.

This will be a particularly short post as the game today was quite the pitchers duel, remaining scoreless into the tenth inning. Jose Quintana continued to dominate today, going 8 innings giving up just 6 hits and no runs. Unfortunately, he will take the no decision (again), as he has not given up a run in his last two outtings (which consisted of 16 total innings).

It is evident that the White Sox offense has slowed down significantly as of late. The Sox as a team have wasted some pretty stellar starting pitching over the last few weeks, dropping a few games in the standings. Lucky for us, the Indians lost today and the Sox were able to pull out the rubber match in extras.

The tenth inning started with a double by Alejandro De Aza (he was 2 for 5 today). After a Gordon Beckham flyout to center and a walk to Adam Dunn, pinch hitter Eduardo Escobar had a chance to be a hero. Escobar drilled a fastball to center field, plating the winning run in Alejandro De Aza from second.

Some other notable offensive performances from today:

De Aza- 2 for 5 (as previously mentioned) with the only run scored of the game

Beckham- also 2 for 5

Ok….. well thats really about it, not much offense today….

This was a big win for the White Sox as they had lost their last 4 series in a row coming into this 3 game set with the Brewers. With that win today the White Sox now own a half game lead in the AL Central division. Hopefully the momentum from today will board the teams charter to Minnesota with them.

The White Sox announced after the game that they acquired Kevin Youkilis from the Red Sox in exchange for Pitcher Zach Stewart and super utility man Brent Lillibridge. I think I speak for all Sox fans when I say, Brent, thank you for playing the game hard and for giving us all you had, good luck in Boston. I also think I speak for Sox fans when I say, Kevin, Welcome to the South Side, please give our 3B spot some offensive production.

For more on the Kevin Youkilis deal check out this article written by Matt Adams. Very well done.

This may be slightly out of my realm but I have a few thoughts to share on what has been going on with Ryan Braun recently. I’m a White Sox fan first and foremost but I also follow and enjoy baseball as a whole. Braun is one of the stars of the game and from what I hear he’s just a good person in general. So what could be going on? Is it true? Lets look at some stuff here for a minute.
