Rick Hahn and company are in Florida at the Winter Meetings. Don’t expect the White Sox to do much this week.

Rick Hahn talked winter meetings with Scott Merkin of MLB.com. The Winter Meetings are in Florida. The Chicago White Sox aren’t one of the teams expected to make much noise. Still, it will give the team the opportunity to speak with agents and also discuss possible trades.

"“You have to go in with the attitude that nothing has to happen here and you want to be fully prepared for however you can best anticipate the market unfolding while you are down there.”-Rick Hahn, White Sox General Manager"

The point Hahn stressed is the Sox don’t need to do anything. They can stand pat. Welington Castillo filled the void at catcher. Now it’s just a matter of continuing to rebuild and adding young talent. Jose Abreu has been the speculation of trades but that has cooled off. Hahn has been very patient when deciding where to strike, so expect the same.

In a way this team doesn’t have much business to conduct. Last season they were actively shopping Chris Sale and Adam Eaton. But now the tides are different. They’ve loaded up on young talent and that’s what they should continue to do.

The biggest impact may come during the Rule 5 Draft. You can sometimes get an impact player during this draft. That’s probably what the White Sox are looking to do. They may not have much action on the trade front or free agency, but they may be able to get a young prospect.

"“We try not to get too carried away with something [that] has to be done while we are there to show progress. It’s another four or five days on the offseason calendar, and the goal is to get the thing right by Opening Day, not necessarily by Dec. 15.”-Rick Hahn"

Last winter meetings were a busy one for the White Sox. This season is different. A year into the rebuild, the farm system is solid. Hahn has done a phenomenal job bringing in young talent, that can contribute soon. If all works out, the Sox will be a force to reckon with. And hopefully that means another World Series Championship.
