White Sox: Micker Adolfo suffers another injury setback
White Sox outfield prospect suffers another injury just before the start of Spring Training action in Arizona. The outfielder could need surgery.
Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Micker Adolfo was chatting with Eloy Jimenez during batting practice in Spring Training about the future outfield of this team. Adolfo, along with Jimenez envisioned an outfield consisting of both players along with Luis Robert in the future for the Sox.
Unfortunately for Adolfo, that dream will have to be put on hold as the 21-year-old has suffered yet another injury setback in his young career. On Friday, the Sox announced Adolfo suffered a UCL sprain in his right elbow and a strained flexor tendon. Adolfo is expected to miss no less than six weeks, and won’t participate in Spring Training.

Adolfo has dealt with injuries before and was able to put together his first season of more than 100 games played in 2017. Last season, Adolfo appeared in a career-high 112 games for Single-A Kannapolis and hit .264 with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs. He did, however, have a pinky injury that ended his 2017 season.
The native of the Dominican Republic was signed as an international free agent in 2013 and received a $1.6 million signing bonus. Adolfo has dealt with a string of injuries which has curtailed his progress. In 2015, Adolfo broke his leg and in 2016 he broke his hamate bone. This latest injury to Adolfo could require surgery on his right elbow.

Certainly, he shouldn’t feel inordinately bad other than disappointed that his season’s going to be potentially mildly truncated because of some rotten luck. Hopefully, for Adolfo, his latest injury setback doesn’t deter his confidence. It has to be very frustrating for the young outfielder to have dealt with so many injuries this early in his career. If Adolfo does require surgery on his right elbow, he might not play a game this season which would be unfortunate. Sox fans should hope for the best for talented outfielder’s future.
