Chicago White Sox: Winner in the craziest ninth inning ever

The Chicago White Sox won an absolute thriller of a baseball game on Sunday afternoon thanks to some late-game heroics from their star players. They left bases loaded in the 8th inning down a run which was really frustrating to watch. The ninth inning was one of the crazier innings you will ever see in a baseball game this season. The White Sox won the baseball game 4-3 on a walk-off wild pitch but that doesn’t tell the story.

The Chicago White Sox will hold first place after a wild win vs the Kansas City Royals.

Tim Anderson led the inning off with a ground-rule double off of Royals reliever Wade Davis. Anderson was down 0-2 in the count and took a great curveball deep. Starting the inning with a runner on second and no outs was great and it set up something special. After Adam Eaton bunted Anderson to third, Yoan Moncada drove him in to tie the game.

Jose Abreu, just two days after that awful collision with Hunter Dozier, took one for the team off of the arm to push Yoan Moncada to second base. Yermin Mercedes, the complete stud that he is, drove a high pitch to the outfield that was sure to score Moncada from second base. Whit Merrifield had different ideas, however, as he gunned down Moncada at the plate to preserve the tie. Abreu made it to third.

With Yasmani Grandal at the dish, Abreu came home to score on a wild pitch that barely got away. After an intense review of the play, Jose was ruled safe by the umpires and the White Sox were officially declared winners of the ballgame. It was as intense of a game as we will see all inning and the 9th inning had everything you would want in terms of drama. Out-of-town fans were loving a game like that.

This game is all about Jose Abreu now. You can’t teach the level of instincts that he had on that play to give the White Sox to win. We are used to him hitting big home runs or driving in runs with his power instead of using his legs but he can do it all. He is really climbing the ladder of all-time great Chicago White Sox players.

Dylan Cease had a very good start for the White Sox. He continues to develop that amazing arm of his and it is so fun to watch. The bullpen gave up a couple of runs but the pitching was really good overall. The offense just needed to eventually show up at some point. Between the Adam Eaton home run and the 9th inning drama, they got just enough to win. They now split the series 2-2 and go into next week with a great 24-15 record.
