Seby Zavala will go if Yasmani Grandal is healthy for the Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox paid Yasmani Grandal a lot of money. He has lived up to it for the most part with the exception of this season. He was brutal at the plate until right before he was injured last week. Now, he is on the IL and hoping to stay hot when he comes back.

When he hit the Injured List, the White Sox purchased the contract of Seby Zavala and cut Yermin Mercedes. He is not up in Major League Baseball and will be until Grandal comes back. You had to figure he would make his way up at some point in 2022 after how 2021 went.

Zavala is the clear backup behind Resse McGuire but he will get in a few games every now and then. He will certainly end up in fewer games than he had in 2021 as McGuire is significantly better so there isn’t much competition for Grandal’s backup.

The White Sox might have him waiting in the wings in case there is another injury or they make the playoffs but there is little doubt that he will be gone by the All-Star break (as long as Yasmani Grandal returns healthy).

The White Sox will be hoping that sending these guys down, trading them, or designating them for assignment can help them take another step towards winning the whole thing. It would also mean that they are getting healthier which is also important. It is a shame to see some people go but the betterment of the team should always be number one.
