The Chicago White Sox have a lot of talent on their roster. Because of this, people expected them to be much better than they have been so far in 2022. It has mostly been a disaster this season and now they need change.

The trade deadline is coming up quickly and they need to make some moves. If they aren’t smart, they will find themselves on the outside looking in by October.

The trade deadline is sure to bring in some more pieces that can help the White Sox win more games as the stretch run begins.

If they are going to have some impactful change to this roster before it is too late, these three players need to be gone after the 2022 trade deadline:

Chicago White Sox. Leury Garcia. 28. player. 128. . UTIL

Leury Garcia should have never been on the roster to begin with. He would probably be playing overseas or in the Minor Leagues if the White Sox didn’t offer him a three-year deal once the 2021 season ended. On a team with championship aspirations, he shouldn’t be playing.

Not only does he play as a utility player (which would be bad enough), he is in the lineup almost every single day. It is something that needs to change because Tony La Russa can’t stop using him.

If Garcia is gone after the deadline, it won’t be because he was traded. It would be because he finally had to go (DFA) because he isn’t good enough. If the White Sox make a move for a player who deserves the roster spot more, it could be the end of Leury’s White Sox career.

Jose Ruiz. 66. player. 128. . RP. Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox should not be using Jose Ruiz in big moments anymore.

It would be one thing if Jose Ruiz was used right. Tony La Russa uses him in way too many high-leverage situations for him to remain on the roster. It probably won’t change but he has no business being on this team once the deadline passes.

The White Sox are for sure going to make a trade for a reliever before the deadline and that will take up a roster spot. Ruiz should be one of the folks to go in order to make room for that reliever as they are sure to provide something more.

Plenty of good relief pitchers are out there for the White Sox to consider. They need to go out and get one of them so that they have a bullpen that is ready for the stretch run. It is a group that already has a history of pitching well when it matters most.

Ruiz has been a decent stop gap when he is used right but he can’t be trusted in high leverage situations. Once again, if Tony La Russa used him right he would be fine but they need someone new to come in and take his place via trade. This bullpen needs to put its best foot forward now.

128. . C. Chicago White Sox. Reese McGuire. 21. player

The Chicago White Sox have a decision to make with one of their catchers.

Before Yasmani Grandal came back from his injury, there was a big debate over who would be DFA’d out of Reese McGuire and Seby Zavala. Well, Luis Robert hit the injured list right when that happened and they both got to stay. Now, the White Sox have three catchers on their roster.

For the sake of argument, it would appear as if Zavala appears to be better for this team right now. He is hitting the ball much better and neither of them is an elite catcher. McGuire is better than Zavala in that way but the bat might overrule the glove.

When the roster is a bit healthier and perhaps after a bat is acquired at the deadline, one of the three catchers is going to have to go. It might not be fair but it is the way that it is at this point of the season. Regardless of what happens with these catchers, the White Sox need to do what is best for the team.

If this team is active enough to get these three off the roster, that means they took it seriously and will have a chance to win down the stretch. If not, it is going to be a grind to win what is the worst division in baseball. It would be nice to see them do what they can to put their best foot forward.
