The Chicago White Sox should take a good hard look at their roster before 2023.

Leury Garcia

Unfortunately, Leury Garcia didn’t have that good of a season in 2021. He hit a couple of extremely clutch home runs throughout the year and none were bigger than his go-ahead (which ended up being the game-winning) home run in their first home playoff game.

Besides that, he really doesn’t have much value to the team outside of the fact that he can play multiple positions to eat up innings. He is not a winning player if he is an everyday player. You might be able to get away with him as your 26th man but you can do better than that.

The White Sox love this guy for whatever reason and he has been even worse in 2022 than he was in 2021. He had a chance to prove that he was worth the contract that he was given and he became a player that should never be playing.

Everything about his game is detrimental to the Chicago White Sox these days. It makes it even worse when Tony La Russa puts him in situations where you would put star players. He has hit in the top four of this lineup a few times this season and it has been disgraceful.

Garcia’s WAR of -0.8 tells you everything you need to know about his production. To say that he hasn’t redeemed himself would be an understatement.

It is good to know that a couple of White Sox players redeemed themselves after 2021 but there are quite a few that took steps backward after tough 2021s as well. In 2023, there are also going to be a lot of players trying to redeem themselves for bad 2022 seasons but that is a whole new topic.
