White Sox Claim Waldis Joaquin Off Waivers From The San Francisco Giants

Today the White Sox claimed right handed pitcher Waldis Joaquin off of waivers from the San Francisco Giants.

Joaquin pitched very poorly in the majors last season for the Giants. He lasted only a month into the season before being optioned to triple-A Fresno in the beginning of May. Over that time he pitched 4.2 innings and earned a horrible 9.64 ERA.

Down in Fresno, Joaquin worked as a starter and a reliever and earned a 4.93 ERA in 23 appearances.

Since 2009, he’s pitched 15.1 innings in the majors for the Giants and has a careeer 5.87 ERA.

I’m not sure what the whole point of this waiver claim is for the White Sox because Joaquin doesn’t seem to have much value in the majors pitching in any situation but I’m sure there is some sort of reasoning behind it. Whether we find out what that reasoning was is yet to be seen.
