White Sox offer Arbitration to Buehrle; Decline Pierre

The White Sox have offered salary arbitration to free agent left-hander Mark Buehrle but not to outfielder Juan Pierre.

This means that should Buehrle sign with another team the White Sox will get a draft pick as compensation. We’re all hoping that the Sox will bring Mark back for next season, and seasons to come, but think of this as fire insurance. As for Juan Pierre, since the Sox declined, it’s the opposite of Buehrle’s situation. Kenny Williams isn’t really worried about losing Pierre’s “productivity” so he doesn’t need to get a draft pick if Pierre signs with someone else.

In other AL Central news the Twins have signed catcher Ryan Doumit to a one-year deal and the Indians resigned outfielder Grady Sizemore, also a one-year contract.
