Thursday, Sept. 4 is the 73rd birthday of Chicago White Sox TV broadcaster Ken Harrelson, or best known as “Hawk.”

Hawk has been the lead play-by-play announcer for the White Sox since 1990.

I know some folks aren’t a big fan of his, but I enjoy Hawk most of the time. He can make a meaningless game in September still enjoyable to watch, and that is tough to do.

His style is different. The White Sox seem to do no wrong with Hawk, and that’s fine, but who doesn’t enjoy the occasional Hawk rant?

Hawk is one of my favorite parts of baseball, as his voice is a constant when it comes to the White Sox, and that is something I enjoy. Maybe it is his emotion, maybe it is because we all would like to yell at the umpires after a bad call. I believe Hawk announces the game from pure emotion and that how most of us would probably announce a game as well.

Is his style textbook, no, but that is what I like about it the most … his style is unique and fun! Plus, he has the best home run call in all of baseball.

Happy Birthday to Hawk!.
