Behind the power of 4 home runs, the White Sox took it to the visting Angels Monday night. Carlos Quentin had two while Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo each added one. Viciedo hit his first major league home run into the left field seats on a line drive rocket.
The first inning set the tone of this game when Carlos Quentin made a miraculous diving catch in deep righ field. Torii Hunter was up to bat with two outs and a runner on second base when Quentin saved a run and an extra-base hit. Aside from the first inning, Gavin Floyd stayed away from trouble the majority of the game. He gave up one run over 7 innings pitched on 5 hits. Floyd added 4 strikeouts and 2 BB.
With Floyd’s quality start, the White Sox tallied an unprecedented 23 quality starts in their last 25 games. This, combined with adequate offense and sound defense will keep them in this race. They are now a game back of the division leading Tigers and a half game behind the Twins.
Jered Weaver will oppose Jake Peavy tonight. Weaver leads the league in strikeouts and Peavy has looked sharp as of late.
