White Sox outfielder Alejandro de Aza was spotted taking grounders at first base early Friday afternoon prior to Chicago’s homestand opener against the Kansas City Royals.

De Aza worked on his fielding and footwork, backhanding balls and firing to second base under the tutelage of bench coach Joey Cora.

Manager Ozzie Guillen confirmed that De Aza could see some time at first, a la Brent Lillibridge if Paul Konerko‘s knee continues to bother him and if Adam Dunn continues to struggle.

Brent Lillibridge has first base duties Friday against the lefty Bruce Chen, who has already beaten the Sox twice this year to account for 1/3 of his wins.
