Pierzynski Day-To-Day After HBP

A.J. Pierzynski took a Bruce Chen fastball (doesn’t sound intimidating, I know) to the right wrist in the third inning Friday night.

He took himself out of the game after the fourth inning in favor of backup catcher Tyler Flowers.

X-rays came back negative and Pierzynski is listed as day-to-day.

While it benefits Flowers to finally get some playing time and some at-bats, it’s tough to expect much from him since he’s been sitting so regularly. If A.J. were to hit the 15-day DL, that would at least give him a few days to adjust to starting every day again, but that won’t be the case.

Flowers struck out in his first at-bat and didn’t look at all comfortable against Chen, though you can’t hold it against him since the entire Sox team had combined for one hit at that point.

We’ve said this twice already this year, but seriously…

Bruce Chen???
