A.J. Pierzynski‘s bruised left wrist turned out to be worse than anticipated, despite the negative X-rays after he was hit by a pitch on Friday night.
The White Sox placed Pierzynski on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a fractured left wrist on Tuesday, retroactive to August 13.
It’s Pierzynski’s first ever trip to the DL – he’s caught 1,000 innings in each of the last nine seasons.
He leads American League catchers in batting average (.296), games played (103) and innings caught (862 1/3).
The White Sox purchased the contract of catcher Donny Lucy from Triple-A Charlotte to serve as Tyler Flowers‘ backup.
Follow me on twitter for more updates when I get to the field this afternoon. If Pierzynski’s season is done, that could be a big blow to the team’s playoff hopes.
