The day has finally arrived. Fans have basically been praying for Carlos Quentin to get hurt all year – in other words, for Dayan Viciedo to come up from Triple-A and finish the business he started in Spring Training by having the best showing of any White Sox player before a fractured thumb derailed him.
He hit .298/20/78 at Triple-A Charlotte this season. Quentin is expected to be placed on the DL and Viciedo summoned from Triple-A to join the team on Saturday.
People have been begging for Viciedo all year, essentially giving him unattainable expectations. I wonder if they’ll boo if he hits just .275 with five homers and a dozen RBIs down the stretch.
In any other world, that’d be a pretty good showing for a rookie over the final month.
