The White Sox activated Philip Humber from the 15-day DL on Saturday. Humber has been out since Aug. 18 after taking a Kosuke Fukudome line drive off the forehead.
The starting rotation is still being worked out, but the White Sox play eight games from Sunday to Saturday, so Humber will be sure to get a start in there, likely one of the two double-header games against Cleveland on Monday.
Humber was a shining star in the rotation through the first half of the year but his contributions have diminished in the second half as he’s obliterated his career-high in innings by over 100 already.
The respite may work in Humber’s favor as he tries to help the White Sox salvage the season with just 27 games left to play and 6.5 games in the standings to make up.
The team did not need to make a corresponding move since rosters expanded from 25 to 40 on Sept. 1.
