Axelrod Gets the Call

As the Tigers dance on the White Sox’s grave, the Pale Hose are trying to regain some composure in case they decide on winning a few games over the next three weeks.

The White Sox hung on in the series opener against Cleveland. Sergio Santos struggled again and was pulled mid-save in favor of Chris Sale, who got the final out to preserve the 2-1 win.

Dylan Axelrod was summoned from Triple-A on Monday, adding more depth to the bullpen and another fresh arm to look at when considering the available spot Sale leaves when he moves to the starting rotation next year.

Axelrod was featured on Seedlings to Stars earlier this season when he was promoted to Triple-A. Props due to Nathaniel Stoltz over there for having the keen eye to report on Axelrod (Addison Reed, too!).

Axelrod is 9-3 with a 2.69 ERA 26 games, 24 starts, with Class AA Birmingham and Class AAA Charlotte in 2011.  He posts a .227 batting average against and was ranked by Baseball America prior to the season as possessing the Best Control in the White Sox farm system.
