Sox Add Kosuke Fukudome

Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times has dutifully informed us that the White Sox have responded to the lack of Cuban acquisitions by signing a Japanese retread. Kosuke Fukudome split 2011 between the Indians and the Cubs after failing to live up to the expectations he carried with him after making the jump from Japanese baseball to the Majors. The dollars are right at one year one million and a 2013 option for 3.5 million. He will likely fill a part-time outfield/platoon role for the Sox. At the very least the move proves that Kenny Williams isn’t simply sleeping through the winter. That or he just woke up and instantly gave the go on this move. The likelihood of either is about equal, but given that both Fukudome and the White Sox are coming off of similarly disappointing years in which the hype overshadowed the production, this is a pretty nifty little match. Happy Valentine’s Day.
