The O-Dog is Here…to…

Wondering who will fill that roster vacancy when Brent Morel hits the DL? Wonder no more. The O-Dog, Orlando Hudson will apparently be reporting to the White Sox. In addition to filling a need for an infielder, he will also fill the “what did he just say?” role on the team that has been vacant since the end of 2011 when Ozzie walked out. Any MLB Network viewers or fans of the many teams for which he’s played in his career know, when the O-Dog talks, it’s best to record it and play back at half speed. Hudson was released by the Padres just a few days ago, having hit .238/.313/.344 while there.

It’s an interesting choice, as the majority of Hudson’s field work has been at second base, and the need is third. It’s possible that he slides into a utility role while Brent Lillibridge and Eduardo Escobar split time at third, though the idea here could be to have Hudson play third and just see what happens. A long shot would be moving Gordo back to third and an even longer shot would see Dayan getting another look at third. The more I think about all of this the less sense the move makes to me. Let’s allow it settle, watch a baseball game, and think about it a little further later on…
