While the White Sox try to figure out how they’ll land in regards to a third baseman, a former Southside resident of the hot corner is still trying to latch on, this time with the Philadelphia Phillies. Josh Fields has signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Fields hit a healthy .322/.392/.488 for the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes in the Pacific Coast League (Los Angeles Dodgers organization) last season and is hoping to crack the major league roster, a feat he hasn’t accomplished since receiving 49 at-bats from the Royals in 2010.
The Phillies are not afraid of giving former White Sox opportunities. Phillies Spring Training 2012 hosted a battle for backup outfielder between Juan Pierre and Scott Podsednik. Pierre is forgoing the whole roster spot battle in 2013, recently signing a 1 year, $1.6M contract with the newly thinned out Miami Marlins.
What we’ve learned: People keep hiring Juan Pierre and Josh Fields tries really hard.
