Quintana v. McAllister – Lineups 4/24
Through three starts, Quintana has actually been the White Sox’ best pitcher. (Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports)
Jose Quintana is coming off of back-to-back excellent outings, and looks to continue that streak against the Cleveland Indians this afternoon. On April 12th, Quintana pitched against this same Indians team and only allowed one baserunner in 7 innings while striking out 7 in a painful no decision. So far this year, Quintana’s velocity is up a tick, and it is worth watching to see whether it is simply a blip on the radar or a real step forward.
Zach McAllister is off to a good start this season as well, with 16 strikeouts to only 3 walks. In his second outing this year, he faced the White Sox and held them to 3 runs (only 1 earned) in a 9-4 Indians romp. McAllister was aggressive up in the zone against Chicago with his 92-94 mph fastballs, and unfortunately the Sox were largely unable to handle them. McAllister is the Indians’ 2nd best starter at this point after Masterson, but he profiles more as a #4 starter for most teams.
The White Sox offense has continued to be stagnant, as they enter today with a losing streak of 4 games. Despite the fact that the team is 3rd in the AL in runs allowed this season, it is offset by the fact that they are dead last in the AL in runs scored, hence the 7-12 record coming into today. The following gentlemen will be tasked with improving on that tally:
1. Alejandro de Aza (LF)
2. Jeff Keppinger (2B)
3. Alex Rios (RF)
4. Adam Dunn (1B)
5. Paul Konerko (DH)
6. Conor Gillaspie (3B)
7. Alexei Ramirez (SS)
8. Tyler Flowers (C)
9. Blake Tekotte (CF)
The White Sox’ opponents have arrayed their hitters in the following fashion to take on Jose Quintana today:
1. Michael Brantley (LF)
2. Jason Kipnis (2B)
3. Mark Reynolds (1B)
4. Nick Swisher (DH)
5. Ryan Raburn (RF)
6. Mike Aviles (SS)
7. Lonnie Chisenhall (3B)
8. Lou Marson (C)
9. Drew Stubbs (CF)
Notable absences for the Indians are Asdrubal Cabrera, Carlos Santana, and Michael Bourn.
