Where were you on June 12th? The White Sox were sitting around wondering if they’d be getting a game in that day. A loss the previous night dropped them from 4th place in the division to 5th. Perhaps that was on their mind. Perhaps they were eager for a chance to climb back out of the cellar. Who wants to be in the cellar? It doesn’t matter who wants it, somebody gets it, and the White Sox never climbed out. The series against the Blue Jays was the last they sniffed of 4th place, and a rainout to finish it gave them some time think about the horrid future ahead.
The Blue Jays had already been in last place for over a month. Cruelly, they had a few days of 4th place ahead of them, as a winning streak gave them some level of hope. They were quickly returned to their 5th place residence and now find themselves here. Back in Chicago making up a game that doesn’t matter much to many.
Both teams are sending regular starters to the hill to represent their respective squads. Northwestern’s own J.A. Happ will be up for the Blue Jays. Happ missed a chunk of the season after being hit in the head with a line drive and also experiencing some knee trouble. Most recently he went 7 innings against the Yankees while allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 7 batters. The White Sox have Jose “no decision” Quintana to counter. Quintana has had an excellent year and continues to cruise allowing just 1 run in his last 2 starts.
