The Royals, and Astros slide in this weeks Power Rankings after unexpected slow starts, While the White Sox, and Mariners are the hottest teams in baseball?? See where all of the teams fell in this weeks edition of the American League Power Rankings by Southside Showdown!

128. The White Sox have the best record in the American League as we open the month of May, and have done so mostly on the road, and mostly against teams that played in October in 2015. The Pitching has continued to impress, and the bats are heating up with the weather in Chicago. This White Sox team is not joke, they’re here to stay in 2016.. (19-9). Previous: 2nd. Chicago White Sox. 1. team

team. 14. The Boston Red Sox are sitting atop the AL East entering play today, and trail only the White Sox in wins in the American League. The Red Sox will look to the rubber match with the White Sox this evening to gain ground on the southsider’s for the best record in the AL. The Boston offense has been potent in 2016, and Big Papi is playing better than he has in recent years on his farewell tour.. (16-11). Previous: 9th. Boston Red Sox. 2

Seattle Mariners. 3. team. 62. The Mariners have won 11 of their last 15 games entering play today, the only team in baseball hotter than the M’s are the White Sox. The Mariners lead the AL West by 1.5 games over the Rangers, and have the offense clicking on all cylinders the last two weeks. . (16-11). Previous: 13th

(14-12). Previous: 4th. Detroit Tigers. 4. team. 63. The Tigers will stay put at number four this week, as they have played .500 ball over the last two weeks, but still have 14 wins, and trail the White Sox in the AL Central by 4.0 games entering play. <a href=

Texas Rangers. 5. team. 126. The Rangers trail the M’s by a game and a half in the AL West entering play, but have the talent to stay atop the American League in 2016, with <a href=. (15-13). Previous: 3rd

11. The Orioles slide back a spot in this week’s power rankings as they have definitely cooled down since their sizzling start, but with an offense featuring <a href=. (15-11). Previous: 5th. Baltimore Orioles. 6. team

Previous: 1st. Kansas City royals. 7. team. 7. The Royals have lost seven of their last ten, and 10 of their last 16 games in what has been one of the biggest surprises of 2016. The Royals find themselves in third place in the AL Central, trailing the White Sox by 4.5 games entering play today. . (14-13)

39. The Blue Jays have been playing .500 ball this season, but beyond the teams above them in this weeks power rankings, so have most of the teams in the American League. The Difference between the Jays and the rest of the teams playing .500 ball is that the Jays have a power packed offense, and most of the others do not. Will the pitching be the Jays demise? We shall see, not for nothing the Jays did just post back to back walk off wins over the Rangers at the Rogers Centre.. (14-15). Previous: 8th. Toronto Blue Jays. 8. team

(13-15). Previous: 12th. Los Angeles Angels. 9. team. 102. The Angels like the Jays have played 8-8 baseball over the last two weeks and find themselves in third in the AL West, trailing the Mariners by 3.5 games entering play today. The Angels rotating left-fielders have combined for the lowest offensive output in all of baseball in 2016, I remember saying in the preseason power rankings that the lack of production, and consistency would hurt them big time.

Previous: 14th. Oakland Athletics. 11. team. 96. The A’s have surprised some people this year, myself included Not that they are doing incredibly well, but they’re playing better than expected. Sitting at 13-16 the A’s have avoided the cellar thus far, and trail the Mariners by just 4.0 games entering play today. After sitting in first place for a few days earlier this season they seem to have come back down to earth, having lost seven of their last ten games. Is the <a href=. (13-16)

(12-14). Previous: 11th. Tampa Bay Rays. 12. team. 21. The Tampa Bay Rays slide a spot in this week’s rankings, and sit in the fourth position in the American League East division. The Rays just seem to always find a way to hang around the middle of the pack in the American League. The Rays have split their last 10 games, but still trail the Red Sox by only 3.5 games entering play. Probably not going to close that gap at any point this season, but hey who knows? We’ve seen the Rays do it before in recent years.

135. The Astros find themselves sitting in last place in the American League West entering play today, and eight games under .500 after being picked by many to win the American League West before the season. The Astros pitching staff is a soft-throwing hot mess thus far, and the Astros look to be in big trouble in the space city. . (10-18). Previous: 6th. Houston Astros. 13. team

14. team. 43. The Yankees dropped four spots in this week’s power rankings after dropping seven of their last ten games, and they bronx bombers are sitting in last place in the American League East, 6.0 games behind rival Boston. In fact the Yankees have been so bad, they’re only one game ahead of the Minnesota Twins for last place in the entire American League.. (9-16). Previous: 10th. New York Yankees

Minnesota Twins. 15. team. 2. . (8-20). Previous: 15th

The Minnesota Twins are bad this year…really, really bad in fact. They sit dead last in the American League, and the only team that they can look down on are the lowly braves who pretty much sold off every major league quality player they had this offseason to acquire a stockpile of prospects, and picks in a very Philadelphia 76ers like move.

Byron Buxton

can not hit major league pitching yet, and is now back in Triple-A, and just about everything down the line has been awful for the Twins.
