Another Southside Showdown contributor, Matt Cizek, is also predicting the Sox will sign Harper. Cizek predicts the Sox will be able to convince Harper that joining a young rebuilding team that has more talented prospects on the way is the right choice. Along with offering more money as well.

"“I think what attracts him most is the money, playing time, and the opportunity to be with a team who’s stacked with young talent.” Matt Cizek"

Similar to Jon, Matt also predicts Machado will sign with Yankees. Matt predicts Machado’s desire to play shortstop and in New York will be the reason he lands with the Yankees.

Matt’s contract predictions listed below:

Bryce Harper-White Sox, 10 years, $345 million

Manny Machado-Yankees, 10 years, $320 million

Southside Showdown contributor Jeff Shirk‘s predictions for Harper and Machado has each player signing with a team other than the Sox. Jeff predicts Harper signs with the Yankees as he would be a much bigger star in the bright lights of New York.

"“His [Harper] stats are yearning for the short porch in Right Field, and his marketability will be incomplete anywhere but NYC. Longer deal backloaded to minimize/defer luxury tax impact.” Jeff Shirk"

Jeff’s prediction for Machado is for him to sign with the Dodgers. A shorter contract for Machado is what Jeff predicts and he mentioned the familiarity between Machado and the Dodgers will be beneficial to the free agent going back to Los Angeles. Jeff mentioned there isn’t a need currently to spend significantly for the Sox.

Jeff’s contract predictions:

Bryce Harper-Yankees, 8 years, $250 million with mutual opt-outs starting at the fifth year.

Manny Machado-Dodgers, 6 years, $200 million with opt-outs starting at the fourth through the sixth year and club options for the seventh and eighth years.
