The White Sox record currently stands at 33-34, after winning the opener against New York, which should be considered a success given the number of injuries to their pitching staff that they have had. It’s not good to get any easier with the difficult upcoming schedule.

Chicago has a big test coming up starting with this Yankees series, which starts a stretch where the White Sox will have fifteen straight games against teams .500 or better.

The White Sox will have a four-game series against the Yankees and then go on a difficult road series that includes eight games against the Cubs, Rangers, and then the Red Sox. They will then return home for a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins, the White Sox arch-rival and arguably baseball’s best team.

For the White Sox to come out okay after all of this, they will have to play a lot better than they’ve been playing, especially in regards to their starting pitching.

Starting pitcher Dylan Cease could be promoted sometime soon and Jon Jay will likely come off the injured list and give them another veteran outfielder. The White Sox may be nearing the end of the road with Yonder Alonso and this would create an opportunity for a younger player to be promoted and given a shot to improve the lineup. Luis Robert could be promoted within the next couple of months. Having Cease in the rotation will be a significant upgrade and give the Sox more of a chance to win every five days.

As much as White Sox fans would have liked it, the team didn’t sign Dallas Keuchel, though that would have been the right thing for them to do, so it’s clear that Rick Hahn and co. don’t see this year as an opportunity to make the playoffs. However if this team can survive this tough upcoming schedule, anything is possible.
