You can’t win them all, and the Chicago White Sox started the second half of the season off on a low note, but it can be okay.

The Chicago White Sox lost to the Oakland Athletics by a final score of 5-1 on Friday night. It wasn’t a pretty game to watch for Sox fans because it always sort of felt like they were going to lose the game even when they had a chance to tie.

There were points in the game where big bats like Jose Abreu came up with a chance to tie the game but it just never happened. Games like this are going to happen for young teams so it is about how they respond in the next game. There are always pros and cons to every game and the pro here is that even in a game like this there was still an opportunity to win regardless of the fact that they didn’t get it done.

Yoan Moncada came into this game with an MLB leading 13 game hit streak and extended it to 14 in the first inning when he singled. The Major League Baseball-leading 14 games is a career high for Moncada. He has really taken his game to the next level and is a star for this team. That first inning single wouldn’t be the last we hear from him as he went on to have not one, not two, but three hits in the game. It was a special night for him despite the final score.

Ivan Nova just didn’t appear to have the stuff we know he is capable of having in this one. He shut down the Chicago Cubs last weekend but he just didn’t have it tonight. The key for him is to forget about it and be ready for his next start. He is an important player for this team in the second half so we would love to see him excel.

The A’s are a good team so just forget about it and be ready for the next one. There is a reason they are right there for the American League Wild card so the White Sox need to be ready and on top of their game in these next two games in Oakland. This Saturday game is going to be an afternoon start for those of us in the Midwest. As projected, Dylan Covey will get the start as it was previously listed as TBD. It is important for this team to at least have a good showing in these next two games.
