The Chicago White Sox are going to have one of their top pitching prospects make his second career start today against the Royals in Kansas City.
The Chicago White Sox are back in action tonight against the Kansas City Royals. They have had lots of success against them so far this year and hopefully, tonight is no different. It is going to be Dylan Cease on the mound for the second time in his Major League Baseball career and his very first on the road.
We are expecting big things from him in his career so it is important that he keeps getting these reps against Major League teams. His first start was against the Detroit Tigers and then this one is of course against the Royals. Those are two teams in the American League Central that are having really tough years. It appears as if the White Sox are easing Cease into the rotation and letting him get his feet wet slowly.
They appear to be handling him right. He was very good in his MLB debut for a first timer. He had a final stat line of 5.0 IP, 4 hits, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, and 6 K’s and most importantly a win. Those are good numbers for a kid making his big league debut. Now it is up to him to keep it going and continue to develop and improve as his career moves along.
He won’t be facing the most potent offense of all time when he takes the mound against the Royals but they are still an MLB team. He will have to face a guy like Whit Merrifield who is a phenomenal hitter. Those are the kind of guys that you want to see Cease get out. That is how you develop good habits and get in a rhythm.
He is a major piece that the White Sox hope to have at the top of the rotation for a long time. They want him to be a part of something special with some other guys like Michael Kopech and Lucas Giolito. It is looking like that might be the case and it is exciting to think about.
It is important that Cease continues to start games and having him get MLB experience will do him well for 2020. If he is a really solid number three or four next year the White Sox will be in great shape. Make sure you are watching every game Cease pitches in for the rest of the season because it is a quick glimpse into the future of the White Sox.
