The Chicago White Sox may have their permanent solution to second base on the horizon and he is lighting up the minor leagues right now.

The Chicago White Sox have been so hyped over their top prospect Luis Robert over the last few weeks. He was called up to Triple-A and began dominating right away. Everyone is so excited for Robert, and because of that, another top prospect that has been lighting it up has been a little more forgotten.

Nick Madrigal was the White Sox first-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. He is a second baseman out of Oregon State. He has quickly risen through the White Sox minor league system as well. He is already in double-A and he has only been a member of the organization for a little over a year now. He has owned AA ball for the Birmingham Barons after being called up from high A ball earlier this season.

Last night, he had a double, a walk, and a run scored in the Barons 4-2 win over the Tennessee Smokies, the AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. He now has a .376 batting average and a 9.13 OPS in 31 AA games. He has only struck out four times and has 12 walks which is an awesome ratio. He just doesn’t strike out very often at all and that is what the White Sox are hoping he will bring to the team someday.

It is fair to hope that Madrigal is the leadoff hitter of the future White Sox teams and the everyday second baseman. With Yoan Moncada‘s successful move to third base, the door is wide open for Madrigal to assume the position of second base one day and run with it. We are all hoping to see him succeed in this role and help the White Sox score lots of runs. If he can get on base at an elite clip with guys like Moncada, Eloy Jimenez, and Luis Robert hitting behind him someday, this could be a very dangerous starting lineup.
