The Chicago White Sox can’t get the sweep in their Sunday afternoon game, but it was still a very good comeback series for them.

The Chicago White Sox were in a position to sweep a very good Tampa Bay Rays team, but they couldn’t win the series finale as they were defeated by a final score of 4-2. It would have been nice to see them get the sweep after being swept themselves in two straight series.

Dylan Cease got a third straight start, and one bad inning was his demise. He gave up a four-spot in the second inning but after that, he was poised and shut them down the rest of the game. Those would be the only runs the Rays scored all game but the comeback fell short by two runs. It is okay though because Dylan Cease is showing tremendous growth and fans should be excited about what he will bring to the table in the not so distant future.

Yolmer Sanchez and Adam Engel had good games in the batter’s box but the top guys in the lineup didn’t get the job done and that was the difference in the game. Tampa Bay pitcher Blake Snell shut them down. The reigning Cy Young winner has had a subpar year but he was excellent in this game.

Now the White Sox are going to be finally returning home to Chicago for the first time since hosting the Chicago Cubs in the final series before the All-Star Break. It was a long, tough road trip, but they will be back at Guaranteed Rate Field for a three-game series with the Miami Marlins. This is the type of series that you would expect the White Sox to play well in based on the way the Marlins’ season has gone, but if you go into it with that mindset the series will go similarly to the way it did against the Kansas City Royals.

It was good to see the White Sox get back on track this series, despite the loss in the season finale. Hopefully, they can keep it going at home as they will play a handful of games there now. There could be some help on the way as far as offense goes in the not so distant future.
