The Chicago White Sox have gotten more than they ever could have imagined from their now All-Star catcher and he has done it again.
The Chicago White Sox came back after an almost comeback against the Los Angeles Angels and took all of the momentum into their Friday night game. They defeated the Angels by a final score of 7-2 and it was a fun night all around. Jason Benetti was joined in the broadcast booth by Bill Walton and it was a wild ride for fans listening at home.
They were already winning 3-2 late before James McCann hit his second grand slam of the week to give the White Sox the five-run cushion that they would carry to a victory. He has had an incredible season for the White Sox and has been everything they needed and more from a catcher. He went 3 for 4 in the game and had a major part in the White Sox winning this game. It is awesome to see a guy with his story come out and have a wonderful year like this.
Lucas Giolito got the start for the White Sox and had yet another amazing start. In 6 innings pitched he gave up only two earned runs on six hits and had eleven strikeouts to only three walks. The only true blemish was when he gave up a solo shot to Mike Trout in the fifth inning. Trout is one of the best players ever and that was his 41st home run of the season and August is barely halfway over. The fact that it was his only blemish in the game says a lot about how awesome he was.
Giolito may not be in the Cy Young conversation anymore like he was at the beginning of the season, but he now improves to 13-6 on the season and is having just an incredible year for the White Sox. There is a good chance that he remains an elite pitcher for a long time and the White Sox are lucky to have him.
So with McCann and Giolito leading the way, the White Sox are now tied in the series 1-1 with the Angels and will be ready to take them on again on Saturday. It is going to be a challenge to win this series but the White Sox have what it takes. They have been pretty good as of late and can carry this momentum into the weekend.
