Yoan Moncada has broken out in a big way for the Chicago White Sox in 2019, but he has been especially good in the month of September for the team.

On Tuesday night, Yoan Moncada had a big game for the Chicago White Sox, as he led them to victory over the Kansas City Royals with a 3-for-4 night in which he homered, scored two runs and drove in a pair as well.

His performance on Tuesday helped continue a now six-game hitting streak and put an exclamation point on an already strong month of September so far.

This month, the third baseman is hitting .424/.500/.636 with one homer, four RBI, and six walks as compared to only five strikeouts.

Furthermore, he is 13-for-his-last-26 (.500) and has scored eight runs for the team in that span.

The infielder’s progress in 2019 has certainly been one of the team’s best developments as he is hitting .301/.358/.532 with 23 home runs and 68 RBI on the year to give himself a 3.5 bWAR and 134 OPS+.

Those type of numbers would make him an All-Star candidate every season if he were able to replicate that going forward, but either way, he has significantly improved in his second whole season at the MLB level after struggling to the tune of a .235/.315/.400 slash line in 2018 to go along with 217 strikeouts.

While his 134 strikeouts in 487 plate appearances (27.5% strikeout rate) isn’t great either, it’s considerably better than his 2018 rate of 33.3%.

Continued improvement in that department could only help Moncada progress as a star in this league, and even if he is unable to, it appears that his 2019 strikeout rate hasn’t hindered his ability to perform much at all.

The Chicago White Sox will continue to hope that Yoan Moncada becomes a true superstar in this league and in the meantime, will hope to see the 24-year-old make the month a September to remember.
