The Chicago Whtie Sox ace had a fantastic season and he is being recognized as one of the American League nominees for comeback player of the year.

The Chicago White Sox are proud of the season that their ace Lucas Giolito put together for them. He was statistically one of the worst pitchers in all of baseball in 2018 and he turned that into being one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in 2019. That success has led to him being nominated for the American League Comeback Player of the Year.

The White Sox should be very proud of that recognition and everyone should be excited about what it means. He went from looking like a potential bust to reaching his true potential. He was the top pitching prospect in all of baseball when the White Sox acquired him from the Washington Nationals in the Adam Eaton trade. He did what he needed to turn his performance around and the White Sox are reaping the benefits of it.

His fellow nominees are Texas Rangers outfielder Hunter Pence and Kansas City Royals outfielder Jorge Soler. Those are both very deserving nominees obviously and Giolito should feel honored to be in the same category as great players like that. There is a good chance he wins because of his success but all three of them have a compelling case to win the award. This is a player’s choice award so that means all American League players saw Giolito’s season and thought he was deserving of this recognition.

Lucas Giolito’s season is defined by getting his ERA down from 6.13 to 3.41 and an All-Star appearance for the American League. He had a 14-9 record and was especially dominant in the first half of the season. He also had a WAR of 5.6 in 2019 which says a lot about his improvement as his career WAR is below it at 5.4. It was definitely a step in the right direction and if Giolito can improve on that next season the White Sox will be in good shape.

Lucas Giolito figures to play a major role in the White Sox rotation in 2020 that could feature some great players, especially if they spend some money in free agency. As of right now, you would think that he is the opening day starter for the White Sox next season. Congrats to Lucas on a special season and good luck to him in capturing this award.
