Chicago White Sox: Impressive performances against Oakland
The Chicago White Sox are having a decent spring. Certain individuals continue to put on a show as they look to impact 2020.
The Chicago White Sox lost their Tuesday Spring Training game to the Oakland Athletics 6-5. It was a lineup without the notable stars and they still almost got it done. However, wins and losses have absolutely no meaning right now. What matters the most is that the White Sox continue to see the right guys improve their game heading into 2020. This game had plenty of that.
Nicky Delmonico was definitely a noticeable player. He hit the only home run for either side in the game. His two-run shot scored Luis Robert, who is also having a fabulous start to his Spring Training schedule. Robert is all but a lock to make the team and be an impact hitter but Delmonico is a guy that is looking to win a roster spot.
Adam Engel has already proven that he can be a weapon for this team in 2020. He made a spectacular diving catch in right field. He also was impressive at the plate going 2 for 2 with a walk. Engel, like Delmonico, might not be an everyday starter this year but there is a good chance that he sees some playing time at some point this season. He is the ideal defensive replacement late in a game that they are trying to protect a lead. The fact that he might be able to bring a little bit of offense also helps.
We know what they are going to get from the stars like Yoan Moncada, Lucas Giolito, and Eloy Jimenez but the depth guys are the ones who could make or break this team’s chances of being in the playoffs. These are the guys who need to continue having good springs in order to make the team out of Spring Training. If these guys continue to do well into the season, this is going to be a very fun year.
The White Sox are back in action later today when the Milwaukee Brewers host them at American Family Fields of Phoenix. Dylan Cease is going to make a Spring Training start in this one so hopefully, he has a good one. It would also probably help him if the offense scored some runs. All in all, the spring has been going pretty well for them.
