Mookie Betts is one of the key storylines across Major League Baseball in the year 2020. He is one of the very best baseball players on planet earth so his looming free agency is a big story. When a player of this caliber is on the move, it is always one of the biggest sports stories. The Boston Red Sox traded Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the course of the 2019-20 offseason. It was a very complicated trade that happened until it didn’t until it did again.

The Dodgers would hate it if they sent assets to the Red Sox for Mookie Betts to never play a single game for them. If the coronavirus causes the MLB to not have a 2020 season, then that will be the case as decided by the MLB and MLBPA. Betts’ final season on his deal will count whether they play in 2020 or not. So if they don’t play, he likely won’t ever have been a Dodger on the field.

With that said, it is none of the White Sox problems. That is simply bad luck for Los Angeles. They should offer Mookie Betts a fair deal if he wanted to come to play in Chicago. He would immediately be their best player and that is saying something because the White Sox have some great players. Betts would make them become a World Series contender even sooner than expected.
