The Chicago White Sox could be looking to upgrade the right field position in 2021 and there are some superstars that might be available.

The Chicago White Sox are a team that is almost ready to compete. The MLB season would have officially been underway if a global pandemic didn’t cancel Spring Training and delay the regular season. Well, we may or may not have baseball this year but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t already look ahead. They are probably going to be pretty good in 2020 but chances are that they will be even better in 2021.

One flaw to their starting lineup might be their right fielder. Right now, Nomar Mazara is slotted in to be the guy. He might really turn the corner in 2020 and the White Sox might lock him in as the guy but there are going to be some other options available to them in short order. If they get through this year they should be able to spend on one of the big options for the position once winter rolls around.

Free agency was pretty good to the White Sox this past winter. It could, however, be even better next year. They could sign one of the superstars that are available once the season is over. It is actually crazy how many good right fielders the White Sox could add once the time comes. Free agents should see how bright the future of the White Sox is and consider them when they are looking to sign for big money. These are the three big right field options that the White Sox can go after once the 2020 season is complete:

RF. Boston Red Sox. J.D. Martinez. 1. player. 14.

If J.D. Martinez opts out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox, the White Sox should jump all over the opportunity. He will be 33 years old going into next season which isn’t too old. He would be the perfect right fielder for the White Sox as he can come in and also be an experienced veteran. The Red Sox have taken major steps back since winning the World Series in 2018. They are probably not going to have a good year in 2020 if they play so he might opt out for that reason alone.

He would be coming into the middle of a good young White Sox lineup. He has tons of power and ever since going to Boston, he has only known to hit 30 or more home runs with 100 or more RBIs. If he came to play for the White Sox, there is no doubt that he would be able to carry on that exact same success. He would have young players like Yoan Moncada, Tim Anderson, and Eloy Jimenez hitting in front of him which would really help.

If the White Sox were able to add that sort of power to their organization, even on a short term deal, it would provide even more offensive depth than they already have. He is an opposite-field specialist which might also really be good at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox would be very wise to add this man if they can.

RF. Houston Astros. George Springer. 2. player. 135.

George Springer could not be in a worse position as far as his free-agent status. The Houston Astros are under big fire because they are a part of the biggest cheating scandal in the history of sports. They used technology to steal signs from their opponents which gave them a significant advantage. They could have done it for multiple years but it has been proven that they did it in 2017 which is the year that they won the World Series.

That is why 2020 is a big year for Springer. If he goes out and proves that he is still an elite player without the whistles, trash cans, or buzzers, then he deserves a chance with another team. They do not deserve to be known as World Series Champions but that is a different argument. There might be White Sox fans who shun the idea of adding Springer because of the scandal. Well, if you shun Springer but are okay with Dallas Keuchel then that is hypocritical.

Springer has been an elite player when healthy for a long time. If he was able to bring some of that to this White Sox team then they would be so much better off than with what they have now.  He also, while tainted, does have that World Series experience and was the 2017 World Series MVP. If anything, he knows how to handle the nerves of the playoffs which could help the younger White Sox players out in the clubhouse.

player. 71. . RF. Los Angeles Dodgers. Mookie Betts. 3

Mookie Betts is one of the key storylines across Major League Baseball in the year 2020. He is one of the very best baseball players on planet earth so his looming free agency is a big story. When a player of this caliber is on the move, it is always one of the biggest sports stories. The Boston Red Sox traded Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the course of the 2019-20 offseason. It was a very complicated trade that happened until it didn’t until it did again.

The Dodgers would hate it if they sent assets to the Red Sox for Mookie Betts to never play a single game for them. If the coronavirus causes the MLB to not have a 2020 season, then that will be the case as decided by the MLB and MLBPA. Betts’ final season on his deal will count whether they play in 2020 or not. So if they don’t play, he likely won’t ever have been a Dodger on the field.

With that said, it is none of the White Sox problems. That is simply bad luck for Los Angeles. They should offer Mookie Betts a fair deal if he wanted to come to play in Chicago. He would immediately be their best player and that is saying something because the White Sox have some great players. Betts would make them become a World Series contender even sooner than expected.
