The Chicago White Sox have a lot of great young players and the 2020 MLB Draft is a way to add more. There are some things to know going in.
Major League Baseball finally has an event for us all to watch that has an impact on the league and isn’t a rerun. The 2020 Major League Baseball Draft is tomorrow and Thursday for all fans to watch on MLB Network and ESPN. It is something special for fans, especially now. The Chicago White Sox are going to have a chance to add some players to the mix that they really like.
The draft is only going to be five rounds this year which is an adjustment made by the league in response to COVID-19. It is much shorter than the usual draft but the White Sox are going get the opportunity to stack their farm even more than it already is. Their first pick is going to be the eleventh overall pick which is the first time they aren’t drafting in the top ten in a while.
The White Sox selected Andrew Vaughn last year and Nick Madrigal the year before. It is a nice little run of good players drafted in the first round and hopefully, they make it three years in a row. They need to make sure they hit on this pick and draft someone who will be able to come in and be an impact guy right away. They have some positional needs right now but it is hard to draft for that in baseball because you never know where a team is going to be by the time a prospect is ready.
Whenever you have a pick that isn’t in the top ten, it is very difficult to speculate who is going to be drafted. At pick 11, the White Sox might have a lot of nice options to choose from. As long as they add a really good player there, this draft is going to be considered a win for them. Hopefully, this is the last time they are picking as high as eleven for a long time.
There are going to be some good players drafted into the division. The Detroit Tigers are going to make the first overall selection where they will likely choose Spencer Torkelson from Arizona State. The Kansas City Royals are just a few spots later at pick four. It is unclear what they will do because it depends on the three clubs ahead of them. The Cleveland Indians are back at pick 23 and the Minnesota Twins at 27. Hopefully, out of all these teams, the White Sox add the player that is the best fit to help his organization.
