The Chicago White Sox drafted Garrett Crochet in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft and he is getting some Chris Sale comparisons.

The Chicago White Sox had Chris Sale dominate on their mound for a long time. He is one of the best pitchers to ever play in the history of the franchise. Well, he didn’t get there overnight. The White Sox drafted him and developed him into the player that he became. He might be on his way to the Hall of Fame if he can have a strong finish with the Boston Red Sox and a lot of it was spent with Chicago.

Well, the White Sox just drafted someone that is considered to be his clone. Garrett Crochet was immediately compared to Sale on TV when he was drafted. It could have a lot to do with the fact that he was drafted by the White Sox but it could also have to do with his stature and the way he plays. Like Sale, he is a tall lengthy kid that can throw the ball very hard.

It is a bit unfair to hope that Crochet will be just like Chris Sale. Pitchers like that come once in a generation and you never know the next time the Sox will have a guy that good. You don’t absolutely need a guy like that to win the World Series even though it helps. As long as they have five really good starters, they will have a good chance to win one day.

Crochet was a good pitcher for the University of Tennessee but he did deal with some injuries. Before the Tommy John bug hit the organization over the last year or so, the White Sox have done a good job keeping their guys healthy for the most part. That would be a nice thing to see continue with Crochet. Sale, until 2020, hasn’t dealt with any injuries so you hope that can continue here. This was a great pick for the White Sox and hopefully, he lives up to it.
