The Chicago White Sox would be very smart to add a pitcher like Mike Clevinger.

The Chicago White Sox are currently involved in their rubber match game against the Kansas City Royals. They are looking to win yet another series and improve their record to 21-13. It has been a great start for them this season as they are clicking on all cylinders. They might be looking to add another arm to their rotation right now and the biggest rumors might surprise some people. Some of the big reporters are claiming that they are in serious talks with the Cleveland Indians discussing Mike Clevinger.

If you add Clevinger to the current White Sox rotation, that would make their already good crew even better. If he pitched behind Lucas Giolito and Dallas Keuchel and probably ahead of Dylan Cease, that is a brilliant 1-4 and one you can be excited about in the playoffs. This is something the White Sox should do if it is for a reasonable price.

It is fair to wonder how two teams separated by a game in the same division make a trade but 2020 has brought us many surprises. Each team has different needs and probably feels like if they can address those needs, they can win the World Series. The White Sox have almost all of their young core locked up for the next half-decade or more so they can afford to trade a prospect for a player like Clevinger. The Indians probably also want another Major League bat which feels like a lot but it would be a fair deal.

Clevinger is a wonderful arm. He went 13-4 last season with a 1.056 WHIP and 2.71 ERA. This season he is 1-1 in four games played but he hasn’t pitched as much because of COVID-19 related issues. If he can stay healthy and start following the proper protocols, the White Sox would become a much better team than they already were. This is certainly something to keep an eye on as we progress through Sunday and make our way into Monday.
