Adam Engel provided the big spark for the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.

The Chicago White Sox have been on a role. Their fifth straight win has them at 31-16 which is the best record in the American League. The win yesterday came against the Minnesota Twins so you know that it was an important victory. The White Sox now has a two-game lead in the American League Central after the big win which looks really nice with three games left against them this week. It was one of the craziest games of the season for a lot of reasons but they were able to pull out a big win.

Adam Engel was able to pinch-hit for Nomar Mazara in the eighth inning and he had the hit that would serve as the game-winner. It was followed by a big hit by Tim Anderson that allowed the White Sox to have a two-run lead for a little extra cushion.

It followed him showing bunt which is extremely annoying until you realize that he didn’t actually want to bunt. He is a good hitter that doesn’t get a lot of playing time but he is useful in situations like this if he swings away. They needed him to come through with two men on and no outs and he did. It was the biggest hit of the 2020 season.

The cloud of the Twins having their number is still over their head as the win improved their record against them to 3-4 which is still under .500. If they would have lost this game, the narrative that the Sox can’t beat the Twins would have been amplified even more so this is huge. Now, they had a sigh of relief for one night and get to see Dane Dunning tonight. This is a big chance for the White Sox to keep the train moving. Hopefully, we are able to look back at Engel’s hit as a tone-setter for the rest of this series.
