The Chicago White Sox deserved to get beat down by the Chicago Cubs.

The Chicago White Sox are playing some pathetic baseball right now. They allowed the Chicago Cubs to come into Guaranteed Rate Field and destroy them in a really important series opener. It felt like a favorable matchup for the Cubs with Yu Darvish going up against Dylan Cease. The White Sox don’t hit right-handed pitching as well as left-handed pitching but that pathetic of an effort will get them nowhere if they don’t fix it by Tuesday. They weren’t even in the game for the most part.

The Cubs started off by dominating Dylan Cease. Kyle Schwarber and Willson Contreras had their way with him in his start and that led to bad things for the White Sox. It was just a bad night all around for this team and their effort level was clearly below standards.

If they don’t correct that tonight against the Cubs tonight, they will get smashed again. They are undefeated this season against left-handed pitchers so seeing Jon Lester on the mound for the Cubs might be a sight for sore eyes. They really need to get their bats going and there would be no better time than tonight. If Jose Abreu and Tim Anderson can keep doing what they are doing while some other guys get back to the level we know they can get to, they should be able to win these next two games.

Although the White Sox got what they deserved from the Cubs, there is still hope to salvage the season and win the division. The Minnesota Twins were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds and have two more against them. The Cleveland Indians came back to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and now things are really interesting. All three teams have a chance to win the division going into the final weekend of the season. Hopefully, the White Sox are able to not be pathetic and win a baseball game or two.
