The Chicago White Sox almost had a major comeback but fell just short.
The Chicago White Sox looked pretty dead after going down 10-1 to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night. The season finale looked like a lifeless team getting trounced by their bitter rival to end what was already a pretty tough week. It was a blowout in the Cubs favor until it wasn’t. The White Sox were able to come all the way back and make it really interesting in the end. The Cubs were able to hang on but the White Sox had the tying run at the plate before they were defeated 10-8.
Nobody ever expected the White Sox to even make it that close when they were down by nine runs late in the ballgame. Everyone had to contribute for them to bat around the way that they did. It really should give this team a lot of positive vibes as they head towards the postseason. They have a day off today but will get their postseason started on Tuesday afternoon.
The White Sox fell to the seventh seed as they ended up tying for second place in the AL Central. The Cleveland Indians had the tie breaker, however, so the White Sox technically finished in third place. It was a great season all around but the division is very strong. There is no doubt that there are going to be some good battles over the next few years.
The White Sox have some top heavy pitching in their rotation and in their bullpen. If this little finish against the Cubs can give them any momentum to get their bats back on track they will be really dangerous. The Oakland A’s are a great team and have the second seed for a reason but it sure would be cool to see the White Sox pull off an upset. This wasn’t the best way to end the season going into it all but there are some positives to take away.
