Chicago White Sox star rookie Luis Robert is now a  Gold Glove Award winner.

The Chicago White Sox know that Luis Robert is a superstar. He showed at times that he can be an MVP caliber player and top-five player in the MLB. He was a fantastic hitter at points during the 2020 season and his ceiling should make other American League teams worried. The thing that is even better for Robert is that he is an elite defensive centerfielder. It came out on Tuesday night that he is officially a Gold Glove Award winner.

Robert is the first rookie to win the award in the history of the Chicago White Sox. He was sometimes too good at being a centerfielder as he was there to catch fly balls that belonged to other players. He has the ability to cover so much ground because his athleticism is amazing. His range is as good as any centerfielder in the league which will save a lot of runs against for the White Sox.

He has the speed and athleticism to make jaw-dropping defensive plays on a nightly basis. It is amazing what he can do to track down baseballs. When he came in we heard a lot about his offensive game but his defensive game is just as good. He is the definition of a five-tool player.

Robert wasn’t the only player on the White Sox to be nominated for the Gold Glove. Yasmani Grandal, James McCann, Danny Mendick, and Yoan Moncada were all nominated for their respective positions. Robert, however, was the only White Sox player to win the award. This will likely not be the last time he takes home the award. He is only a rookie and already this good which means he will probably get better.

Hot. Tony La Russa might not be all that bad for the White Sox. light

The fact that he is the first rookie in the history of the White Sox to win a Gold Glove is impressive. This is an extremely old franchise so any time there is a first it is a big deal. Hopefully, Robert is able to capture it many more times along with many other awards. He is the player that should be leading this team on both sides of the baseball for a long time.
